When green mucus is coughed up it means that, there is some form of inflammation of the bronchi or the bronchial tubes. This condition is known as bronchitis, it is normally caused by irritants such as allergies, air pollution, smoke or viral infections. These irritants cause the sinus membrane to produce more than the usual amount of mucus.
As we have mentioned above, green mucus is mainly associated with bronchitis.
Here are some conditions associated with green mucus:
Nasal polyps
Blocked sinuses (sinus congestion)
Hayfever

When ever you have yellow mucus it is a sign of a bacterial infection. Same if you have a cut and you see yellow stuff around the scab,or a pimple that you squeeze and has yellow stuff(puss). All of it is an infection. Most doc's will treat bacterial infections in the sinuses because if left alone can become chronic and difficult to treat. I suggest you seek treatment.

Sinus infection. Just got back from the doctor for the same thing myself. Got a painful shot in the butt & 7 days worth of anti-biotics. You'll need an anti-biotic, more than likely, which you can only get from a doctor's prescription. It'll help dry it up if you take some extra Vitamin C, Zinc & Garlic tabs. Eat lots of oranges and chicken soup with garlic. Zinc is in a vitamin form.

That yellow and green actually is pus within your mucus membranes. You have an infection--what kind? It varies. If it gets worse or you have other symptoms such as fever, aches or anything you find yourself to be abnormal, go to a doctor.

Green usually indicates an infection. Drink plenty of clear fluids, get rest, and if it lasts for more than 2 days go to your doctor.

green mucus means you have an infection in your system. you need to see the doctor to clear it up as that's the only way. don't put it off as an infection can lead to pneumonia.

acute sinus infection. How does your face feel, is it a little puffy under the eyes and tender around your nose, forehead and cheekbones? And a pressure feeling. You could go to the doctor but they usually fix themselves. Just blow you nose, instead of sniffle. Hope you feel better.
