For a videography project I play a guru who teaches somebody how to play Gutiar Hero...here's the problem:

I dont know how to play Gutiar Hero! What do I need to know?

Note: I'm wearing a Gandalf costume...LOL!

the in game tutorial tell you all you need to know
when the note hits the line at the front
you have to be holding a fret down
and then strum
you can hold the fret down over several notes
just like in real guitar the timing is in the strumming

it's like dance dance revolution, but with your fingers. it's not that hard, just practice for a day and you'll get it quickly.

or have a body double who can play stand in for you. or use video from youtube of someone who's really good
