Perdon - just simply "sorry"

Lo siento - kind of stronger than sorry, more like "I regret it". I used that all the time when I was studying my GCSEs and went to Spain and was told that it was a bit strong to simply say "sorry"

In the case you describe, you say: Disculpa or disculpe.
Disculpa is in the familiar form, and disculpe is in the respectful, formal form.
Pronunciation: Deescoolpah - deescoolpeh
