I didn't ask for the theory of teutonic plates. I asked "HOW DOES RELIGION EXPLAIN THIS".

The same way religion explains everything that they don't understand.
god did it.
then, once we understand the universe around us a little more, that's one less thing that god is responsible for.
god has always existed at the edges of our understanding of the world around us. As our understanding grows, there becomes less and less room for supernatural imaginary deities.
