"Single kitten syndrome:

Single kittens tend to be biters. This can be helped by putting in a stuffed toy for the kitten to snuggle up to. You may also wish to find another single kitten to merge with this kitten. It is a health risk to merge them together for either kitten, but it can be really hard to break the habit of biting with a young kitten."

he was 4 weeks old when i got him, he was abandoned and i think he was taken away from his mom and siblings way earlier.

but i havent been teaching him not to bite, ive been leaving it up to my adult cat who plays really rough with him.
do you think he will learn from my1yr old adult female cat?

got one right now as a matter of fact :) he's the cutest little bug..

I have found the easiest way to train a kitten not to bite is to say "ow" in a meow type of way, high pitched like he would if he was in pain. When i do it, they stop bitting me instantly and look up at me. Usually they'll lick me immediately. The "ow' is what their siblings would do when they are playing.

I find it important for kittens to know that they can wrap their teeth around you and how hard to bite before pain happens.. most cats will bite to warn you to stop what you are doing, and if they don't know how to do it gently - as a warning - it can cause problems in the future..

Try the 'ow' trick. If he is persistent after you make the noise, put him down - isolate him for a few minutes. Ignoring the behavior will show him that it is not acceptable. giving negative attention can often be misunderstood as good attention and encourage the behavior you don't want. Hitting and being physical with the kitten can cause him to fear you.

your older cat will help him learn the ropes. You also have to realize he's way WAY young, and has a LOT of learning to do.

I found a single 8 week old kitten in a parking lot. My older female who was 1.5years at a time took over raising her. She did a very good job. The kitten does not bite and is very loving. However I did spend time throughout the day holding the kitten and when it would attempt to bite I would say no and put the kitten down.

Been there and done that.

You are right about the kitten being to young to be away from his mother.
You will have to help the kitten to learn not to bite you or he`s going to think it`s ok for him to do it.
Although the adult cat will enforce it, because the older one will know you don`t like it.
