Doing a project on suicide. My thesis statement: "People should be more informed about suicide in order to prevent it". Looking for comparisons between years/age groups, for ex, suicide cases are rising among whom? -teens? gays?

Looked everywhere online, statcan, etc. and can't find anything.

Please help?

AMA will be against you in gathering this type of information. All mental health info is considered private, and any patient participating in any kind of interview would have to sign a form to allow his/her information to be used. This applies to almost anything. I was interviewed for a government security clearance, for instance, and they could not ask my doctor anything without me specifically signing the EXACT questions they would be asking. And they were simple questions like, "Does this person's illness in any way incapacitate him from performing this job?" That was literally all they could ask. ...and I had to give my permission to even let them ask that.

I would try to find some good books on the subject. Kay Redfield Jameson has a good one (granted, it is more focused on teens and children) called I think, "Darkness Falls Fast" (something like that anyway).

See about interviews with Doctors, and see if you can find statistics, you might also try and get in contact with your local Nami chapter, they could probably help you get your hands on some good books, good statistics, and great information.

That doesn't make sense. If a person is looking to commit suicide they aren't going to not do it just b/c they are "informed" about it. There are psychiological aspects that come into play. It's not as simple as putting a poster up about "suicide=bad , don't do it!". Try looking up Suicide Statistics.
