Mental Disorders are not, most of the time, hereditary;certainly no more hereditary than most of the physical disorders.Just because it is running in the family or as in the case you have cited all the members of the family are suffering, need not be hereditary at all as it is most probably due to learning also.We just copy the behaviour of others in front of us during our childhood especially if that behaviour yielded results i.e. gets what we wanted. For instance, throwing a tantrum makes my people scurry around to satisfy and pacify me, I would rather pick up that behaviour(tantrum) when next time I want something!Lo,throwing temper tantrum for everything is in fact labelled as schizophrenic!!

Um, there is an apparent heredity factor present in this case. The wife and her parent obiviously are carriers of the trait. The husband is as well, but from another strain. So it is highly likely that the 12 year old is also a carrier of the trait which was present in both parents.

Mental illness can be hereditary but just because one person has it does not mean the whole family will or even the person's children. Stress can also bring on mental illness.

It is a mere co-incident. There is a rehabilitation centre for schizophrenia patients at Mumbai.

that's a crazy coincidence... I'd say there is a better chance of having a disorder if you have a family history of it.. but it won't necessarily happen.

For me...
I think because of thesuffering that they are undergoing whenver they see their family member in pain...also made them kinda go mad...
because whenver you love ur family...u never want them to suffer...
so, I think it is psychological...
