cancer last week and given 3 mos. to live. She didn't live out the week. Our family had no idea she was sick. How is it possible to be that sick and not know? Could she have known and just didn't tell any of us?

Thank you to everyone for their words of comfort. Thanks especially to Rettasmile for sharing her cancer experience. Very helpful.

I've had cancer and know that sometimes there is no pain.
I didn't even know I had a brain tumor and it wasn't pressing on anything so that's why I didn't have any pain. the MRI showed that I had a tumor and I got it removed and it turned out to be stage III. So, they gave me radiation treatments and are keeping the chemo back just in case the cancer comes back. So, she maybe didn't know or maybe she knew and didn't have much time and wanted to spare you all the pain.
Sorry to hear of the news, my prayers are with you all!

I have just learned that a friend of many years, now in her 70's, has been diagnosed with cancer that has invaded her liver and is inoperable.
Apart from a feeling of tiredness, she had no symptoms of illness. I don't know whether she had annual check-ups or not. I think people in our age group should do so. It is possible that blood tests and a general physical examination will find a condition in its early stages, when treatment can be successful.

Some types of cancer are very aggresive and she may have felt unwell, tired and thought it was menopause or something else. My heart goes out to your whole family. One thing I do recommend is that your family talk to your physicans and find out if you can get some genetic testing if she had breast cancer there is a BRCA! and BRCA1 gentic test you could get. I'm sorry you have had to go through this I can only imagine the questions your family has right now.

It is possible that she knew and did not want to tell anyone. It must be a very painful thing emotionally and she might not have wanted to cause you or your family any pain. It is also possible to live that sick without knowing though. But it seems more likely she was protecting you. Most people do not want others to see them when they are weak, even family members. I am sorry for your loss.

She may have known and didn't want to go through chemo and didn't want to burden family. Certain cancers are very agressive where the body doesn't have time to show signs. Be glad she passed before the symptoms set in and made her miserable and uncomfortable.
