2. Why wasn't He given a Jewish name like

3. If He were named "Benjamin", how comfortable would you be in saying "Praise Benjamin!"?

The last I heard, Jesus was an hispanic name, not an english name.

God told Joseph to name Him Jesus.

1) The angel told Mary and Joseph what His name would be.

2) From Wikipedia: According to most historians, Jesus probably lived in Galilee for most of his life and he probably spoke Aramaic and Hebrew.[45] The name "Jesus" is an English transliteration of the Latin (Iēsus) which in turn comes from the Greek name Iesous (Ιησους). 3) Well, I don't fell comfortable belting out "Praise Jesus", so I don't really know that I'd be comfortable if the name were changed to Benjamin. :-)

1) God named Him Yeshua (which is Hebrew for Salvation), which renders additional meaning to Scriptural passages such as Exodus 15:2, where Moses was giving thanks to God: "The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation [Yeshua]." Here, Moses gives the Jewish people a clue that God would become Human someday, so they could be saved. (There are many similar passages within the Scriptures.)

2) As I explained above, Jesus' true Hebrew name is Yeshua. Some people mistakenly believe that His name was Joshua; but Joshua is a completely different name that is derived from the same root word as Yeshua.

3) The Hebrew name Benjamin ( בנימין ) or more properly "Binyamiyn," means "son of the right hand." While this choice for a name would have been appropriate, it would not have conveyed the fact that Jesus is God.

So name Easau was not new to Jews. This name has been changed because Bible has gone through so many chnages through translations from one languge to second and then to third. As people of different languages pronounce the same name with slight different pronunciation Easau has come to change from Easau to Yesha to Jashua into Jesus. Even today Spanish world pronounces this name Jesus as ''Hesoos''. God knows what this name will be pronounced 1000 years later in many other countries.

So whether you believe or not original name was Easau as God almighty reported in Quran.

2. I thought Jesus was the English "translation" of Yeshua, which was originally Joshua. I could be wrong, though.

3. I don't praise Jesus (I do agree with some of his moral teachings, though), and I wouldn't praise him if his name were Benjamin.
