I'm going on my THIRD TIME having a tooth abscess. This time around, my tooth is completely fine. There is no cavity on it or anything, but im having horrible pain. My dentist looked at the xray and determined that it was a perio abscess...and said there is something wrong with my bone?

My question is, why would I keep having reoccurring abscesses? I brush my teeth 3-4 times a day, floss, and I rinse with Listerine fluoride. Is there anything I can do to prevent having so many dental problems? I really can't afford it. I only seem to have problems with my bottom teeth, usually the molars.(not that i have many bottom molars left, ive gotten alot pulled).

Please help...:|

It sounds to me like you have a periodontal problem and situation. The key to handling this is to have your general dentist or a specialist (periodontist) completely evaluate your periodontal condition and let you know in no uncertain terms, what kind of shape your gum and bone condition is in and what can be done about it.

Periodontal conditions are prevelant in about 75% of the adult population. Depending upon the severity, the treatment may range from a soft tissue management program, to periodontal surgery, to extraction of hopeless teeth if there is no longer any adequate bone holding them in place.

Your dentist should be very well versed at being able to diagnose and explain what this is all about.

Good luck and best wishes.

Listen to what Dr Dave has to say because he is right. Only a Dentist can find the under laying problem. And you might not what to now the answer. Periodontal disease can only be controlled by you with the help and advise from your Dentist and Hygienist. Compliance in your part is how you are to keep this problem under control. It took a while to come to this and it will take a while to control this.

see your medical doctor and get some blood work done. you may have some underlying medical condition (low immune system) that is not allowing your body to heal itself properly.

on the other hand, some people are just more prone to infections that other people.
