I wouldn't want to be in charge of the world. Honestly, I know I'd be horrible at it.
My real life dream, if both finances and my time become available, is to open a non-profit austic center. We would have schooling for the kids, we would also have activities. There would also be a "relief center" where parents who simply need a break could drop off their autistic child for a little bit. My plan is to start it for only autistic kids, then to expand to downs syndrome, and then open it up to any and all disabilities we could handle. Parents/caregiveres would not have to pay for our services.

There are a lot of things I would do. I would first find all the organisations that are already doing amazing things - such as providing medicines, building houses, helping people grow food, trauma counselling, shelter for homeless, orphanages, etc... and I would give them more money so they could do more of the great work they are already doing. I would also create a network or communication tool (or use an existing one) for all of these organisation to talk to each other so they could work together to optimise their efforts.
I would organise and fund global and local conversations on the range of issues that we need to sort out on this planet at the moment: world peace, environmental sustainability, social justice, health and wellbeing, and other major issues- as well as smaller ones.
In Australia, following the recommendation of 1999 Indigenous Person of the Year, Uncle Bob Randall, I would support the opportunity for all Australians to learn a local indigenous language, in order to finally facilitate better cross-cultural understanding between indigenous and nonindigenous Australians.
I would subsidise all products and services that are better for the environment (eg organic food, renewable energy, etc) so that it was the same or below the price of the less-sustianable options. That way, consumers could really show their preferences without it costing them so much.
I would look at our daily and weekly routines and consider halving the work week - or somehow creating more opportunities for people to have time for reflection, integration and relaxation - to nurture inner peace in whatever way they choose.
Well, that's a start. I could get a lot more specific and could go on forever. But that's my first few thoughts :)

I believe the most important word for the future is sustainability.
I would set out to make the world free of hunger in a self-sustaining way. I would in part do this by creation of underground water retention super-sponges, backed up by massive desalinization tech. Heavy support for world farmers. I would fight all the agriculture companies that are messing with genetics and trying to patent our food. I would create the World Organization of People, a non-governmental body that connected the people who wish peace and change in the world. Heavy funding for encryption and subterfuge for the safety of members in places like China. Fighting over-population would also be a top priority. I would rarely hand over money, preferring goods and services rendered. And education would be another top-priority.
Like I said, make it sustainable because hand-outs are not the solution in the long-term.

It would take a lot of patience, but I believe it can be done.
We would first have to point out to all of America the flaws of our government and begin a transgression into a truely free nation. This would set an example for other countries of the Earth. We would then begin to decrease the need for paper money and bring back the days of trading goods. Then, we can shake hands with our neighbors (Mexico and Canada) and start a revolution for Earth to be under One Kingdom. Of course, there will be opposition. We must insist on non-violent warfare. We must not have one leader, but a council of leaders and a true democracy where every person has a vote. Also, to better mankind, I would fund botanists and scientists so they can enter some of Earth's greatest rainforests and seek out nature's remedies (ex. cure for aids, the common cold, ect.).
Oh, how freedom will ring!

well a world of peace with no war would be hard to achive as human greed will always be a problam... howeve, there are variouse things you can do exp. in your comunity you can do volinter work, community service, raise money for diffrent orginizations.... ect. helping your comunity is the first step and it realy goes a long way!!! you can also donate to charities and stuff! however worldwide is probably a little harder maybe if evryone learnd about the various culters around the world and have an open minde to them, then more people would understand why people do the things they do. well i hope this helps!

I would make a place where the young could learn from the old. Where people of all races, creeds, sexual orientations and spirituality could share thoughts and ideas. A place of love where the hungry would be fed, the sick would be given treatment and the sad would be given hope and love. It would be a place where food, clothing and shelter would be given freely but more importantly the soul would be fed...with love of self and worth. This place already exists in the hearts of man kind...it is just harder and harder to find. Look inside and see if you can see it, it might be hiding behind fear or hate, but it is there. Now that you know where to look will you?

Create a world economy and give everyone a decent-paying job.
And tell the politicians to stop squabbling about who is right or wrong and work together.
And no more political scapegoats.
I believe that these three things will make a peaceful, happy world a near certainty.

Put, and enforce, a cap on private and corporate wealth. Anything over a certain amount should be used to feed the poor and provide every working person with a decent standard of living
Nandina - I like your idea if it were applied to humans. Many are born unnecessarily and live their lives in appaling conditions and suffering - better if they were never brought here in the first place. You really have more sympathy for animals?

I think I would teach more people the practice of meditation. Many people have a bad lot. Even Jesus Christ said "there will always be hungry among you." (This is of course because of the direct scientific relationship between availability of food and population explosions) So, I think instead of attacking a problem, (any of the many in this world) I'd give more people a coping mechanism.
By meditating, you are healthier, are able to find perspective on things, and even come to understand (if not "love") your enemies.

I would try to reduce the population of the world. We have too many people to feed, clothe and house. I would not wipe out populations, but I think I might make, if I could magically do this, death come quickly and painlessly to those with terminal diseases. I don't mean to say that I would kill them, but if I were God, I'd just have them drift off to sleep and go away. I know those left behind would be sad and they would mourn, especially the parents of terminally ill children, but that would happen anyway.
I would like to point out that only about a dozen people have ever walked on soil not on earth. None of us are going anyplace else to live, so we'd better get used to taking care of our home, earth, and we'd better get used to all the different kinds of people around us because none of us are going to live anyplace else.
