Sounds like depression to me. A lot of times you don't necessarily have to have an event in your life to bring it on, and sometimes it's even genetic.

Start by calling your doctor and making an appointment, self diagnosis is not always a good thing.

those all sound like tell tale signs of depression, especially the insomnia and feeling the need to consume alcohol to be able to sleep. drinking right before bed interrupts your natural sleep cycle, which is probably why you are feeling lethargic and restless. no matter how many hours you sleep, if your body is not able to produce your natural sleep, especially REM sleep, then you are going to feel groggy, lethargic, and unrested.

Try an herbal or over the counter non-habit forming sleep aid instead of the alcohol, or possibly get a prescription for an insomnia medication like ambien from your doctor.

You will probably have to see some sort of therapist which I know can sound a little unnerving, but don't put it off. the longer you go about feeling this way, the harder it will be to recover. A therapist can help you get to the root of what is making you feel this way, and possibly resolve some buried issues that may be causing the depression.

Best of Luck to you

This sounds like depression. Before you result to pills I'd try getting something cute and fluffy that needed you. Get a puppy or a rabit or something, avoid cats. Devote your lonly time to the fluffy thing, that's what I'd do anyway, and it helped my mom with her depression.

The drinking is not good. i suggest you go to your doctor and describe to him your symptoms...chances are you are suffering from some form of depression, but he would be able to tell you.
