But I didn't have the heart to do it, I have hot cocoa with a dash of Brown Jamaica Rum and a generous topping of sweet whipped cream.
I could live without the cream and ad a marshmallow, but I adamantly refuse to forgo the rum.
Just in case the marshmallow dissapoints.

Yes, they do put marshmallows in hot cocoa. But I don't remember whether they're "giant" or small, or if it matters at all.

The funny thing is, I've been away for so long (over 30 years) that I'd totally forgot about it, until I saw it mentioned somewhere on the Internet, and... Click! A light bulb lit up in my head and I remembered.

But I don't think I ever did: I've never cared for marshmallows very much (or whipped cream either -- I prefer my cocoa "plain"!).

America has at least 3 basic marshmallow products..
The large the mini and cream I have seen multicolored somewhere..
but make the cocoa very hot to melt the marshmallow.
the cream is just is expensive as the bags and you get less..

We have two sizes of marshmallows here in the US. The smaller "mini" marshmallows are fingernail sized. The standard sized marshmallow is about 1".
Frankly, when you're desperate for a marshmallow for your hot cocoa, doesn't matter what size you find in the pantry!

Here in the US of A, we put far too much sugar in everything. Not sure where you are writing from, but chances are your hot cocoas is far richer, chocalaty, and less sweet than what is commonly served here.
If you like your cocoa very sweet, and like marshmallows, you may enjoy it.
I personally do not like a lot of sugar in my hot cocoa. I use lots of cocoa, a little sugar, and sweeten it with amaretto, frangelico or some other type of nut-flavored liquer with NO marshmallows.

you are so missing out with the marshmallows. as the drink warms the marshmallow it kind of has the same affect as the whip cream. even better is to get marshmallow fluff stuff that they have in the ice cream condiment section.

No. Usually they use the smaller marshmallows. I myself leave them out, and remove the cocoa. I hate to dilute the taste of a good rum. . . it's better on the rocks, by the fireside, shaken, not stirred.

Sometimes I put either a large or a few minitures in my cocoa. I's good if your in the mood for it. Your way sounds really good also. I think I need to go buy some rum and whipped cream. Thanks for the idea.

You should use small marshmallows. That way, they melt some in the cocoa. That’s the best.

I don't know if that is just an American thing, it is tasty but not the huge marshmallows, try the smaller ones to start off with. Cheers to you.
