I really want to join the USAF to be able to work with Airplanes like my husband but we just had a baby girl in Oct and I am worried that if both of us are either TDY'd or deployed at the same time that she won't have anyone to care for her. All our relatives live at least 1400miles away and we dont really have anyone that could care for her here.

The Air Force recruiters have no problem meeting quota, so you would probably have to sign complete custody over to a relative before you went to BMT. You can join the Army or Marines no problem and probably get a nice bonus, to boot. Go talk to a recruiter to make sure.

You can also work with airplanes in a civilian job. There's the Civil Air Patrol. Good luck in whatever you decide!

Absolutely you can join. The only thing is, you and your husband cannot be deployed or TDY'd at the same time. Basically, you have to get the equivalent of a family care plan. I would pick a job in another field than what your husband does though. And I'm fairly certain you can't be in the same unit. But you need to fill out paperwork to ensure you are stationed together.

Just talk to a recruiter and see what you can do. You know you have to go away for a while to Basic and Tech school, but if you really want to join- go for it.

Just another option to consider- you can work in an administrative role for the military without actually joining. They have civilian employees and civilian contractors as you well know. And you can even keep your job when you transfer from base to base. You get all the benefits of job stability and not risk being deployed. Just a thought...

actually you can only go Reserves.. and you MUST have a Family Care plan. you can and WILL be deployed at the same time, and they don't care that your family is 1400 miles away.

in fact you must present the FCP before you can even enlist. the chance of the AF granting a waiver is slim, as they are already fully manned.

I would have to say yes you can. Just talk to a recruiter first.
