....why should I or anyone else offer comfort to them? I am not talking about empathy, because of course people will feel empathy for anyone in pain. Yet if they have the attitude that they don't need anyone to comfort them or if they feel that science can provide all the answers, why should someone intervene? Shouldn't they look into theirselves to find the answers and comfort that they need?

Don't worry I can lie to comfort someone like an atheist will lie to comfort a theist.

I will withhold the factual truth( nothing to do with religion) of why there life is messed up (bad choices). I can give the typical "it wasn't or isn't your fault" type of reply.

So giving a grieving atheist a copy of "The God Delusion" or "The Origin of species" won't help?

Everyone grieves, so what are you trying to say? Not everyone is going to have family and friends to comfort them, so what reason would a stranger have to comfort an atheist if they are so self reliant. If they know the truth then why can't they find the truth for their pain and comfort theirselves?

Yes, in the spiritual sense. No in the emotional and physical sense.

God and science have nothing to do with comforting someone. Atheists have people die in their lives just the same as Christians. Are you saying we don't grieve because we are supposed to be self reliant? Ridiculous! We are human beings, plain and simple and it is part of the human make up to have feelings and needs. Just because a Christian has prayer and fellowship does that mean they never need comfort from another human? Your argument is very flawed. Please try again.

As a Christian, you know all of the ways to comfort yourself so why should a stranger try to comfort you? I would think that of all people Christians would care enough about others to be a shoulder for someone in need. You obviously are wanting to hate on Atheists and don't truly want an answer for your question.

This would be the same as if I were to ask why anyone should comfort a non-atheist, since their religion provides all the answers. Shouldn't they look into their holy texts to find answers and comfort that they need?

Thats not being human silly. We are social animals and will always need each other for comfort. No atheist would want science to comfort them, but a human hug. You must be very confused, and maybe a little sad.

Human beings are not imaginary gods.

We are self-reliant in the fact that we don't need imaginary gods to cope.

In effect we probably need our fellow man more than a religious person does. People with imaginary friends do tend to be less sociable, you know...

All human beings need love and comfort. This is recognised by all the faith communities I know and by those who don't belong to one.
One can be very practical in this without compromising one's faith nor forcing it on the other person. And you never know, they might just think how nice you are!

I have chosen to embrace The FSM ever since the day I was touched by His Noodly Appendage,a truly wonderous moment.

Just because atheists refuse the comfort of an imaginary being, doesn't mean that they don't need comfort at times from real people.

You can be atheist and pastafarian at the same time.

Atheists don't believe in a deity. FSM is a diety.

If they think they don't need the FSM (pbuhna), they are mistaken, and not worthy of love, synmpathy, empathy or anything else.
