Or could He be testing our compassion for abandoned or orphaned children that way?

Yes and no. God COULD do that, and I'd be remiss if I didn't acknowledge that he probably does do that occasionally.....for his own purpose. However, in the VAST majority of cases I don't believe God makes people unable to have children. It's a medical (sometimes genetic) or physical (sometimes emotional) problem. Adoption is NEVER a sin. It's a great option for people whether they are unable to have their own offspring or not. There are thousands of kids out there needing homes and someone to love and take care of them. To ignore them, or mistreat them.....that is sin.
If you are assuming this because of references in the Bible where it says that God "closed the womb" of certain women, please first of all consider that that was a common belief in that time and place, and not necessarily the cause. People also believed that people were sick because of some horrible sin. Yes, we suffer the consequences of our lifestyle habits, even those of our ancestors, but Jesus made it plain that illness wasn't God punishing us or getting even with us. On the other hand, he created our bodies with remarkable ability to heal, to say nothing of the healing that comes directly and solely from him.

i believe god has a reason for EVERYTHING. although it may not seem fair to us..someday i think we will learn to appriate it...I dont understand how adoption can be a sin? God wants us to do good for others, dont you think that by us taking in children that need love would be a good thing, even if you feel you need to be the one who places that child under adoption..you are doing whats best for the child. I mean, for someone to give there child away, I would think that its because you know or believe the child would have a better life. So how that falls under sin? I dont know

No. We all are here for God's purposes.
Adoption is not a sin. It is a great showing of love. What kind of parent you are if you only love your own flesh and blood.

This is quite possibly the first time I have ever agreed with Primo ;)
Adoption is not a sin. Moses was adopted and Jesus had a step-father.

For some people God did not want them to have children. Typically I find that the reason is because God didn't want for them to have children. God either wanted them to adopt, or He required their services elsewhere. Blessed are they who follow His commandments. ( which are not the Ten Commandments, but those commandments He tells each one of us to do - to do the will of God ).

Since deities are not real they have nothing to do with infertility. As a person who is infertile, I would be highly insulted if someone had the audacity to tell me that.
Adoption is a wonderful thing, it's just a shame everyone wants babies and many older children get left out in the cold.

Sometimes, they are unable to have children, because they are meant to adopt, and raise that child, who is meant to do something special.
Ever think of it that way?
I think that puts it into perspective, you have to think about what that reason may be.
Also, an argument would be that, lots of unfit parents have kids.

Maybe God makes some people barren because He wants them to adopt.
