Yes. Even moreso, we, as a society are losing the ability to pick up on nonverbal cues!
While I agree that networking on line is fun, and can encourage those naturally more introverted to open up, nothing can replace person-to-person interaction. The downside is that it can also bring out the ugly side of people - in other words, people say things on line that they'd never dream of saying out loud in a million years.
I'm going to pick on young people for a minute here. Society perceives them as rude. And by standards of older people, they are. However, they're also of a generation where they find that they can say anything online and add a " :) " or a "j/k" or an "lol" at the end of it, and the recipient knows that no real harm was intended. The problem is that this doesn't translate to real life very well. So kids are saying things, meaning no disrespect whatsoever, but don't realize that they can't simply say "I was kidding!" and it's okay. Moreover, they lose the nonverbal skills (eye contact, tone of voice) to convey things.
So yes, I'm with you. The internet is fun and all, but at the end of the day, we need to focus on dealing with REAL people in REAL situations in REAL life.

Yes it is a fact.. Your computer is your best friend and guide and at the same time you should not neglect your social contacts. One should continue to maintain the contacts. PC is only an aid for you, it helps you in so many ways and make your life easy, this does not mean you completely cut off from the world.

No, I actually find it improves the sociability of shy people who wouldn't normally talk to someone in person, but through the computer they will talk to them. It can help them keep in contact with friends and make new friends.

If your best friend is your computer, i feel special considering the fact that it is the individuals whom you communicate with through your computer whom make it so worthwhile.
In this day and age the computer is a tool for communication, and a lot of people don't seem to realise that.
Direct contact is for people who have things to do, imo.

My computer actually facilitates communication with other people for me. I often work at home, and if I didn't have contact with people through the Internet, I wouldn't have as much contact with my colleagues and superiors in the workplace, let alone with friends who live in distant places.

I agree! I work a lot on my computer, but would never give up personal contact with people for my darn computer.
I love connecting with people in person and getting together with friends. It's much more fun!

Computers are making people less sociable now. I mean poeple (not all of them), but poeple now rely on MySpace or some other website to meet people. Ever heard of a phone, people!?!

Its nothing more than just a tool for some people and sometimes it can prove to be useful for people that aren't very out-going.
