Personally, I admit that I am addicted to Diet Coke. I drink three or four a day while I'm working, etc. It is not true most DC drinkers are fat. I work in the legal profession. Most professional people will drink Diet Coke rather than regular. I think as you get older, you don't want that sugary tasting stuff anymore.
No, I'm not fat. I weigh 135 pounds and work out a couple of times a week. For my age, I look pretty good, if I do say so myself. My friend, also big into working out, weighs about the same as me and also drinks DC a lot. And we don't eat at McDonald's either. Some people actually like Diet Coke for the way it tastes. The regular Coke is way too sweet.

When I used to literally live on fast food and soda, I would order a double cheeseburger meal with fries and get a Diet Coke. Once, I purchased what I thought was a Pepsi from a machine. I either pressed the wrong button, or somebody mis-stocked the sodas. Regardless, I had had several sips before I realized I was drinking diet, which I had previously said I would never do. (It was about that time that I said I wouldn't drink light beer. I still don't and since then Bud, which used to be my beer of choice, is too light for me. I like it dark and hoppy. I digress.),
Now, I drink one or two sodas a week, still diet. When I was pregnant, I switched to diet lemon lime becasue it helped with my heartburn, as did Hansen's diet ginger ale. My husband drinks two diet colas a day. We've discussed the healthiness, rather, lack thereof, of this several times. I wish he would cut back, and have expressed my desires. He's an adult and makes his own choices.
Another reason why I drink the diet lemon lime is because I have read a couple of times that the stuff in cola can suck calcium from bones. Also, Coke is quite acidic. If it can eat car battery acid build up, I don't want to know what it can do to my insides. I'll stick with water, coffee, orange juice and soy milk (vanilla and chocolate) and good, real beer, though I really don' drink much, maybe a half a bottle a time when I know my daughter won't be eating for at least an hour and half as I'm breastfeeding.
If you wonder why a person makes the choices s/he makes. then ask him or her.

I'm going to try to give an honest and candid answer. Some other people already mentioned everything else, the possibility that the person is diabetic, other health reasons, they like the taste over regular coke.
I know what answers you are trying to get people to yell at you for. I understand what your point is, yes it doesn't make sense for an overweight person to drink Diet Coke in an effort to effectively lose excess weight from their body when they are ordering a Big Mac with supersized everything at the same time. I'm sure that the overweight person realizes that the Diet Coke is not helping their diet to lose weight due to the other crappy food they are eating from the house of Ronald McShi_ty's.

Maybe because they are diabetic due to being fat and can't have the sugar in regular coke.
When I was a server I always wondered the same thing. I think that drinking 6 diet Cokes is probably worse than drinking 1 regular Coke!

They are trying to get thinner. However, I reckon that although DC has no calories it, there is some mechanism which leads it to have the opposite effect to that claimed.
It may be some physical effect (perhaps aspartame somehow increasing carbohydrate addiction), or it may be psychological (you feel deprived so consume more calories in other foods), but basically, Diet Coke makes (or keeps) you fat.

This is a HUGE marketing myth. Did you know that our bodies can actually take sugar substite and convert it into sugar? There is a great article on webmd that says:
"There was a 41% increase in risk of being overweight for every can or bottle of diet soft drink a person consumes each day,"
Link below..

I know this sounds silly, but most people I know, fat or skinny, will go to Mcdonalds, order an extra large fries, big mac and an large DIET coke.
I came out and asked them, POLITELY, if it was because they were trying to lose weight, I couldn't help but be skeptical. And they laughed and said "no, the regular stuff is too sweet for me"
And one other person said it was because the sugar was making her teeth rot.
So maybe you should stop being so rude and think of the other factors. Maybe they're trying to lose weight.
