Of course you think it's cruel. You probably lead such a sheltered life that you have nothing to compare it to. You wanna see cruel? Go spend a few hours at a slaughter house.
Oh wait, I have a better idea! We can bulldoze some forests, displacing all of the natural wildlife in the process. Then we'll turn that spot into some fields to grow organic food to feed all of the hippies, because we know damn well that vegans and vegetarians grow sooo much of their own food. After that we can watch animal populations increase due to the fact that they now have an overly abundant food source in the crops we planted, and seeing as they have little to no natural predators left we can then watch them become overpopulated, slowly spreading painful diseases like chronic wasting disease and blue tongue which become more prevalent in over populated herds. And lastly, we can watch them starve to death, one of the most painful and cruel ways to die. While this is going on, I think it would be just awesome if We could complain about the people who are actually taking the responsibility to reduce the herds while utilizing the animals for sustenance at the same time. Thereby diminishing the need to displace more animals again. We could call them cruel and heartless because they kill Bambi and we watched one too many Disney movie as children and can't separate reality from fantasy any more.

Yeah, let's do that instead. You are a genius!!!!!!!!!!!

We have had many people go shooting people "just for fun. " I hunt and the only "fun" I have is with the other hunters after hours and at meal times.

When you refer to shooting an animal as fun, you have already decided that nothing will change your mind about hunting or those that do.

I get no "jollies " from taking a deer. I do eat the meat and process it myself as well as the other hunters deer. I also cook it for them on the hunt. If we had more " liver -eaters" I would fix that fresh for dinner from the kill.

The excitement of going on the hunt is about as close to "fun" as it gets for me. When I take a deer, I do not get sexually aroused. I try to kill the deer quickly and cleanly. Any That I may have missed get tracked to make sure either way.

I will make sausage, all cuts of meat, salami and have used some of the hide and even the sinew for making flint knives.

The work starts right after the shot is made. The dragging, skinning, quartering packing and later butchering.

Hunting is something I do. I wont expect to change your opinion but since you cant possibly know everyone that hunts, dont assume this is all done for " fun" or some dark, sick desire.

I hope you never are hungry enough to ask a hunter to get you some food and then tell him he is sick for getting his "jollies" by killing.

What I personally think is that you are a liberal idiot who should not post questions here. Humans are at the top of the food chain and there are animals that kill just for fun and not for food so do you think those animals are cruel too? "Shooting animals for fun" is also needed for population control in order to keep highways and villages across the world safer. Think about how many more car accidents, village maulings, and stampedes there would/could be if population control was not being done across the world. This is why we have endangered species laws, if an animal becomes scarce, a law will be issued to protect them.

Personally, I think hunting is a unique way to experience nature. As for if it's cruel or not depends on the skill of the hunter. If a hunter is ethical, he/she will only take a shot that results in a clean, quick kill, i.e., the animal never knows what hit it. It looks around, sees itself in deer heaven, and says "how did I get here???"
Seriously, though, I would rather eat the meat from a deer that I harvested myself, from my family land, than a piece of beef from a store. If I take the deer, and clean and butcher it myself, I know how the meat was handled. You never really know who handles that stuff at the grocery store, or under what conditions the animal lived. But, that's just my take on it.

A person asked a similar question. And although they didn’t like hunting they gave me best answer. Why? Well maybe it made them realize a few facts.

Here is what I said;
Dear anti-hunter please read this.

Next to my house there are million dieing salmon. Yep thousands are gasping for life with nasty fungi and mold growing on their bodies, other just lay there as the eagles and ravens pick out there eyes while they die.
What horrible thing happened to them? Was it man? A toxic waste spill? Nope it’s called: “death after spawning”.
All natural death and suffering. Its called natures way.

Things eat each other in nature that’s the way it works. It’s all about the food chain. And we humans are on top of that food chain because we use our brain and devise ways to stay there.
We are mammals that eat food to stay alive; fish and animals are a very important food source for man.

So you can cry crocodile tears over the animals all you want. Please do! But it won’t change a thing silly!

For you see if man doesn’t shoot the dear, duck, etc or catch the fish; its still going to die a painful death. There is no way around this fact. When a big fishy eats a little fishy,…um it must hurt some don’t you think? Suffocating in that big fishy’s gut while the stomach acids eat away your flesh. Or the deer who slowly starves to death or is eaten alive by a predator. Or the duck who is eaten alive by the eagle.

Over 350 pharmaceuticals are made from animals, cosmetics, glue, and thousands of things you use every day. You have no idea how you life would be with out animal products.

You anti hunter/fishermen people are incredibly naive.
But there is no reason good enough for you to bug the hell out of sportsman.

I'm with you. We should only purchase domestic animals that have been run in groups to a slaughterhouse, then have their heads yanked up by a steel bar while a butcher cuts it's throat with a chain saw. This B.S. of allowing someone to shot an animal and killing it instantly is .. is ..Well it should be a crime.
I also like the plan of holding a cows head in a steel holder and letting a guy smack it in the forehead with a sledge hammer.
For wild animals like deer we should leave them alone so they can run in front of cars and trucks, get hit a glancing blow by a sissy driver, and be allowed to hobble off into the woods so it can die a peaceful lingering death, or be eaten alive by small cute little furry creatures of nature before they finally bleed out.
Don't you just love natures ways?

PS...follow me to the vegans page so we can tell them all about our love of nature and rag on them for pulling Living plants out of the ground while they are still alive. Then put them on display in a trophy room...Or I mean Grocery store...

I think hunting is fun because, well, I'm from Texas.

And actually, hunters eat what they kill. We don't shoot animals "just for fun". That deer we harvest provides sausage, jerky, and steaks that many people can enjoy. We are some of the biggest conservationists you can ever hope to meet, generally speaking.

Remember, just because you take a stance that is considered to be "politically correct" doesn't mean that you don't still have to do your research and educate yourself about the topic at hand.

Is there a special place that breeds you people who are so divorced from reality? Is it something in the air, or is it something else that causes you to project human emotions and feeling onto animals. I'm just trying to figure out how there are so many semi-literate flakes out there like yourself who feel the need to post their insane drivel on the hunting boards. Here's an idea, go post on the driving forums complaining about all the critters that are being killed by cars and how everyone should cease and desist driving immediately.
