No. No one else should have to breathe a smoker's smoke. And cigarette butts last in the environment forever it seems - they are not biodegradable, so those butts that get stepped on outside the door this morning will still be there a year from now unless someone picks them up. Where I live you can't smoke in bars either.

Maybe, but I think the general argument is that when there is a significant health risk for others in the surrounding area, smoking in public should not be permitted. People can develop lung cancer from second hand smoke and some people with severe asthma can suffer an attack just from inhaling somebody else's cigarette smoke. Those people can't restrict themselves to staying at home because of an involuntary health problem when there is a way to allow them out in public. Some may argue that tobacco addiction is a disease as well, but it's self-inflicted.

Former smoker here. Yes, there are some places that people should be allowed to smoke in public. There should be bars that allow smoking and others that don't so people have a choice. Same with restaurants.
When it comes to the workplace, if you're not dealing with the public a lot, you should at least be able to take a cig break once in a while for sanity's sake.
See? Not all ex smokers are anti smokers. Just glad I quit, that's all.

No, absolutely not because it's a choice that negatively impacts everyone. Why should I as a lifelong non-smoker be subjected to second hand smoke and have to have stinky clothes as a result? Why should I have to pay to subsidize their medical bills for their poor choices?
I am so glad that I can visit public places and not have to think twice about what I wear out. Most importantly, I don't have to my health negatively affected by a choice someone else makes.

People shouldn't be able to smoke at all.
I smoked a pack a day for 25 years and managed to quit without dying.
The tobacco industry should be outlawed.

No, it is damaging to other people who may be standing by. Why should we have to breath in second hand smoke? It makes it a lot more enjoyable to be able to go to a club or restaurant and not have to come out reeking of cigarettes.

No. As a former smoker I never realized how horrible it is. Now when I walk by to go in to the store and people are finishing their cigarettes I can't believe the smell. Plus, what kind of example is that setting.

No, because although smoking is a personal choice, th eimpact of their smoking affects everyone around them negatively. That is not fair.

Heck yes they should. It is a legal product. The smokers pay more taxes than non smokers. Just ask yourself, once they get rid of the smokers what rights would you yourself be willing to give up because somebody else thinks you shouldn't be doing it.
As a nonsmoker myself, I am offended by the self righteous people who think that they own the air. We all own it. I see a lot of people who are non smokers (friends of mine) get rude to somebody that is just sitting alone smoking. They walk to them and start to cough and make an idiot of themselves. I don't find cigarette smoke as offensive as some people who bathe themselves in perfume or cologne.

No, people who smoke are impacting other people lives. If someone needs to smoke they should do it in private.
