People lie because they are afraid of the recipients reaction to something they know they wont like. In other words...people lie because they are afraid.

Because at the end of the day people are people, and people have feelings. It's sometimes better to lie if you know the situation could be blown out of proportion.

I lie to avoid unnecessary questions. I lie to my parents at time coz they ask a lot of why(s) and what for(s) and this makes me annoyed at times i have a lot of problems at my workplace. I lie to my fiance coz he doesnt give me space for my personal time. Whenever i take off or leave to rest at home, somehow he comes up with a reason to meet and i meet very depressed abt this. I have spoken this to him openly but he still repeats the same thing.

Only when I am bending the truth to keep someone's feelings from being hurt. I never blatantly lie to the people I care about. If my friend asks me if I like her outfit, I might say something like "I prefer the other one" as opposed to "that outfit is ugly as sin." I have lied in the past as a reaction to keep myself from being hurt. I try very very hard not to do that anymore. Lying gets you nowhere. I know people who are chronically lying and I don't associate with them because I don't want to be friends with someone I cannot trust.

I don't. Lying is almost always a mistake. And it only takes one time you give you a reputation as a liar, and then it is very hard to get beyond that.
