Seems to be a pretty harsh battle going on here, is it so important that your neighbor has the same belief as you? After a few thousand years of having someones religion crammed down the throats of everyone else religion, do we really need atheists trolling the web like Jehovahs witnesses on a Saturday, preaching the gospel of the un-believer?

well someone has to be the bigger man here and stop the hate... I went to Catholic church for 18 years and never once did the priest tell me to go out and harass the rest of the populace (and he never touched me either). I stopped going to church and never had a mob outside my house trying to get me to show up every Sunday (no phone calls, poison cakes, or black vans with masked men to grab me for re-education). The only people who ever accosted me about religion were the kooks and cultists at malls and flea markets.

I never said I was insulted, offended or religious, I asked a simple question. Try to keep up here.

as for Gazoo, when I turn on the tv, the radio, or launch a browser and I am confronted with anything that tells me Harry potter is evil or that the Golden Compass is the new truth - people have knocked on me door.

I need the ability to stop answerers from giving thumbs up or down. I ask the question and it should be my grace to judge...

Why do Christians try so hard to insult and offend the non-religious?

Comes down to fear and pride. So afraid they are wrong and will have to face the decisions they make, and to prideful to realize that they are wrong and have to eat their words, which they will have to do one day also.

There is a Scripture that is also in more than one place but the same principle-
Take care with what you say, cause you will be judged by the words of your mouth.

Hmm, I like to try to give Life Giving words to others and in my life. I can slip up now and then but I like to TRY to not even let the wrong things come out. Even when it comes to what preacher I like or dislike and why. I try to just move on if I do not like what they said and not knock them for what they have said or in the way they said it. When it comes to Non-believers, I do my best to over look some of the meaness they try to exhibit because they are just very insecure and want to put someone else down so they can feel better about them selves.

God Bless

James,
I am a Christian and I see both sides as playing this game WAY TOO FAR at times. I do not push others to believe what I believe unless they ask my opinion or ask in a questioning manner, I try to keep my religious beliefs beside me and be respectful to all people. There are a number of people on here who have been attacked by others and retaliate. I try not to do so and I seem to be able to do so until my sugars are off-balance. Have a wonderful week.
Thanks,
Eds

I have never once had an atheist insult my religion. I'm a pagan. Do you want to know why? It's because I don't try to shove my religion down their throat. I figure if they want to know about paganism they'll pick up a book or ask me. Maybe if christians did the same atheist would stop insulting them.

Why do religious? You see... when you've been treated like dirt for 2000 years, you get a little deffensive. When the religious butt out, so will Atheists. Until that time, we aren't going to take it anymore. The problem is that its still dangerous for an Atheist to reveal they're Atheist in real life so you get stuck hearing about our discontent with you on the internet. Learn to deal with it. And learn the lessons about how NOT to act.

Actually, that's only a portion of people.

There are religious people and athiest people a like who try to cram their belief, or lack of it, down someone's throat.

But there are an equal number of people from those groups who accept the fact that people just have different beliefs and leave it at that.

Because they have bet their life that the Bible is wrong.

They derive comfort from the disbelief of others, and constantly seek confirmation that they have made the right decision.

Constantly they are bombarded with proofs of God's creation and the faith of God's people. They have doubts too, that's why they argue so vehemently for their religion of atheism.

Unless they can win every argument, their faith is in vain and their eternal destiny is known. They want their eternal destiny to be non-existent.

We'll all find out the truth in death.

What we find will be a shock to some and a confirmation to others.

The only one who ever died and returned to tell about it was Yashua, but they don't feel they should be responsible for believing the firsthand testimony of one who claimed to be the only begotten son of God.

It always comes back to the question of what you think of Jesus. Everyone has to decide whether to think of Yashua as liar, lunatic or LORD.

Not all of them, but if you read a lot of the posts on here by the religious fundaMENTALists, they are frequently VERY insulting, and turnabout is definitely fair play. The ones that are being insulting have probably been repeatedly insulted by those that disagree with them. Also, given the history of the "religious" it isn't too hard to find something to work with to "insult and offend".

Sometimes I wonder what would be possible if all the time spent on Yahoo!Answers in religion- and atheist-bashing were used for something productive and cool. We'd have so many more punk bands and have solved the problem of world hunger, probably!

And landscape paintings. Way too freaking many, probably.

Until the time when religious believers stop saying horrible things about us, it's time for atheists to speak up. It's wrong to think that all the while believers get to say what they want, anyone who disagrees should shut up. What atheists say isn't nearly as bad as Psalm:14.

This is a forum where people debate about religion. It's expected here.
