They never met. At least not according to their respective scriptures. However, Buddhists scriptures indicate knowledge of Jain philosophy and practice and Jain scriptures indicate knowledge of Buddhist teachings.

a meeting is always with a purpose. generally one gives something to the other.

among buddha and mahavir both were enlightened and need not give or accept anything from the other one. there was no need of any mental meeting.

once you rise above your body, the meeting of the bodies is not of any importance. so bodily meeting of those two enlightened ones is meaningless.

but this is a genuine question in the mind of a good seeker.

Buddha was more of a reactionary thinker. His thinking is a reaction against ritualistic and such a society which has removed its brain away. He tried to awaken that society out of darkness of ignorance and in a sense, doing his duty, being illuminated. If he was a charioteer of Arjuna and illuminated soul, his duty would still propel him to do exactly what Krishna did. As his priority would not be removal of ignorance, but to eliminate evil from society. He would not advise Arjuna to take chariot to forest and do TAPA, but instead ask him to war and kill the evil to reestablish sanctity in the world to let people live in peace. He would advise him to perform his Kshatriya dharma as Krishna advised.
