Hey, Skalite, try going into traffic court and telling them you don't consent to the authority of government.

They'll laugh you into a cell!

The Zebra's diagnosis, "false dichotomy" misses the mark.

Because you have proposed correctly precisely the two options human beings must make.

In officially atheistic countries - China, North Vietnam, the former U.S.S.R. - the public order is maintained primarily by means of forcible repression of the people. Might makes right. Period.

I'm laughing at the people who still think the US government is for the people by the people..

If the Founding Fathers saw the crap our current politicians are doing to us and that we are letting them do, they would start a revolt in a minute.

This government has its laws at the barrel of a gun..

Neither.

I would rather the authority of government flow from reasonable people in a responsible manner. But seeing as God and the Gun are currently all the rage, reason and responsibility have gone out the window.

As salaamu 'alaikym, my friend.

Insha'Allah, I would prefer the Law of God/Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, as we currently have many nations whose intent and purpose seems to force their political beliefs and practices off onto the rest of the world.

Insha'Allah, it also not desired to have some attempt to force their religous beliefs onto others by force, either, as there should be no compulsion in regards to religion.

Ma'a salaam.

Addition:

It is amazing how many persons subscribe to the belief that their current government is truly representing the people of their nation.
I wonder how many homeless families and individuals, how many of the elderly, sick and disabled, how many of the unemployed or underemployed, how many of those lacking in medical care for their children, family and theirselves, how many of the hungry (i.e., in 2006, an estimated 35.5 million americans suffered from hunger on a regular basis), etc. feel well represented by their government?
Yes, if you are one of the 10% who have been given tax breaks, allowed tax shelters and are among the richest persons in this nation (as opposed to the other struggling 90%) I am certain that you migt feel and believe that all is well. Such can not be said for the rest of us.

There is a real world out there, populated by real people, all of howm matter. You can either wake up to the truth and do what you are able to do so as to resovle the problems to the benefit of all or you can hide in the safety of your own dillusions.

Make good choices.

Ma'a salaam

The Law of God, or the barrel of a gun. Remind me again, which end of the gun am I at?

Wow....I always thought it was from the consent of the people since we live in a republic. I guess we need to change all the history books.

Added: AND the Constitution.

Or from the "lawful consent of the people to be governed". It's called democracy, we have that here in America.

Not true. Your premise is an either - or.
They both co-exist perfectly.
