Is Spina Bifida a life long condition?

Yes it is and unfortunately there is no known cure. It can be diagnosed as early as the 16th week of pregnancy and is associated with an abnormally high level of alpha-fetoprotein in the amniotic fluid surrounding the baby. It is a developmental defect in which the newborn baby has part of the spinal cord and its covering exposed through a gap in the backbone.

Yes it is, unfortunately. When I found out I was pregnant, (3 months into it) I was on medication that could cause a fetus to have Spina Bifida. They took me off right away but I cried and cried until i had ultrasounds that showed she was ok, and she is. I looked it up and it's awful to see what they have to go through.
