So I went to meps and signed up for the army. When their they ask you about your past I told them I only had a car accident on my record. They did a search and found a domestic violence charge between me and my mom. My recruiter called and told me we have to go and talk to the battallion commander to discuss what is going to happen. I know for not telling about other charges in the past you can get some pretty bad fines thrown on you. What are the chances of me getting in trouble for not mentioning this because it slipped my mind? Also will it effect me from staying in the army?

They might just not allow you to enlist. They might grant you a waiver.

It is NEVER OK to lie on the enlistment documents (but we all did) I am out of the army now so telling all is no big deal. Remember to remain calm and answer honestly. Battalion commanders do not care about you as an individual they care about the unit as a whole. Keep your nose clean from now on (if there is anything else then tell them now) and you will be fine. But, how does a Domestic Violence Charge slip your mind. I have issue with you and really doubt your character but, that is not the point of this question. You have a long way to go in your development as a soldier, take the training to heart and maybe you will contribute to society instead of adding to the drainage.
If you were applying for a clearance, well be ready for a change of MOS (probably 14K or 11D)!

OK so you forgot to tell them about the DV so what other thing might be hidding in your closet. Is there that many things on you mind that you forgot the DV thing? They can give you a wavier and this has no effect on your going or not going. They need he body's and you need to keep you nose clean because if you are to get any kind of a bonus and you step out of line you could kiss that good bye. You could say need a hair cut and a shave that alone is enough of a infraction to stop those things, most times it takes at least two or three times then they will bust your butt on it. Unless it is bad enough right of the bat then stand by.

You don't get fined, you get kicked out of DEP unless they want to process a waiver for your criminal charges.
You are not IN the Army. You are in DEP. Not the same thing. They can kick you out of DEP and keep you from every entering the Army or any other branch for failing to disclose information to the federal government.
You will be lucky if you get to enlist at all now. Here's a hint, ALWAYS tell the truth and they will work with you. You forgetting, which is crap, you knew you were keeping it from them, is a sign of bad character on your part and the military does not need people who lie in their service.

Domestic Violence is serious for the military because a lot of states do not allow you access to firearms with a DV charge. This includes military weapons. A waiver is not likely.
You can be charged with a fradulent enlistment. I belive the maximum is 20,000 and up to 5 years in prison.

No, i does no longer divulge this on your recruiter. without disrespect to Martin, I strongly disagree with him. the charges have been dropped by using the prosecutor, meaning they felt they did no longer have sufficient info to proceed with the charges and take care of a conviction. you're harmless till shown in charge (or plead in charge) and don't might desire to divulge the undeniable fact which you have been as quickly as charged with a criminal offense the place the prosecution dropped the charges. that's not significant why the charges have been dropped; the considerable is they have been dropped and you weren't convicted, and as such the undeniable fact which you have been charged can not be used against you. As you even observed, it did no longer look on your historic past verify. lots of individuals are wrongly charged and those expenses are hence dropped; their lives should not be adversely impacted because of the fact the police/D.A. made a mistake. whether the guy did commit the crime however the charges have been dropped because of the fact of lack-of-info, the charges have been nevertheless dropped. In precis, there is not any explanation which you will demonstrate this might charge (or expenses) on your recruiter; it right did no longer look on your historic past verify and not something interior the regulation calls which you will demonstrate expenses that have been finally dropped to a capacity employer or everyone else. Why take the possibility of dropping this opportunity over some thing which you're no longer required to declare? an extremely final be conscious; I do understand the place Martin is coming from, and in case you think of which you will flow all stuttering and combining up words over this minor situation then possibly you will possibly desire to easily tell your recruiter and need for the proper. yet given which you have have been given come this a techniques, you sound like somebody who's familiar with a thank you to right handle him/herself in interview circumstances. bear in mind, you're no longer "hiding" something by using no longer affirming this, and that i've got self assurance in case you bear in mind that then you certainly should not be so services to getting frightened and performing like Martin defined. proper of success to you.

I seriously doubt it slipped your mind between all the questioning you have to go through between the recruiter and meps. Yes lying on the military application is a felony. Yes they can put you in jail. You probably won't be able to be in the army.

Matt's right except, they may keep you in the military but at Leavenworth prison and then a dishonorable discharge to follow you where ever you go in life after that! You broke one of the ten commandments-thou shalt honor thy mother and father! So when you die you're going to burn in HELL for eternity! What a loser!

they are not going to be understanding. a domestic violence charge is going to effect your ability to carry a weapon and you won't be able to join. you knew better, you should have been up front. and it didn't slip your mind either, that's some bravo sierra.

I'm sure they'll be understanding. It's so easy for someone to forget that little fight, that they had with their mom, which resulted in a DV charge.
