but ifg you end up either as Infantry or Mortar what are the chances of getting what you ask for if your DIs decide?

i dont see how your primary mos would be mortarman unless the drill put you as that, i'm requesting 11B since im doing airborne and trying for ranger

You're pretty likely to end up in the Infantry somewhere. I was an 11x with a Ranger Option and went to Airborne, RIP, and then the Ranger BN after AIT. Others in my platoon were sucked into the 11M (Bradley Fighting Vehicle) training, and others became 11C (mortarmen). The 11B's and 11C's either went to an Airborne unit or on to the Rangers, the 11M's went to legland in Germany or Korea.

All the Army has anymore are 11B and 11C. Many times as an 11C you will go to a unit and do the job of an 11B. I wouldn't worry about it much, even an 11C is still an 11 something.

Your first MOS will be rifleman as it is for any enlisted that is not in the medical or Chaplin fields. Your primary MOS is motarman. Most army enlisted have several MOS's which pertain to different weapons systems or combat specialties. How personnel are sometimes utilzed is up to the on site commander and his needs at any given time.

yeah not a huge diff anyways man either way mortar men can do and often do do patrols and kick in doors. I wouldnt worry enjoy basic and learn what you need to know from your DS worry about symantics later.
