We have asked my husband's parents to join us at our local social club for New Year's Eve with my sister and her partner and my Mum. He confirmed this with them yesterday and they let it slip to a couple they are friends with that we don't like and have sort of invited them. I said a definite no, my sister and her partner don't like the couple either and as it is also my sister's birthday I think it is unfair.
My husband says that if the other couple can't come then his Dad will have to drive, therefore he cannot drink so could they stay the night at ours. I already have my sister and her partner staying on my living room floor and our one and only spare room is not big enough. If they can't stay at ours then they can't come. That's fine by me but hubby says I'm being unreasonable and we are letting them down. What do you think? My sister asked if she could stay first, if I tell her no then I'll be letting HER down.

It's his parents that want to stay the night, not the couple we don't like! If they could come they could take his parents home (as one of them doesn't drink) but I have already said no, I don't want them there.

letterstoheather, I'm not using my inlaws for a taxi home, I live 5 minutes walk away from the venue, that is the reason why we are going there, so we don't need to rely on someone else. They are the ones that live 10 miles away.

If they really want to come and be with you guys then one of them can for-go drinking and then just drive home. But, if the high of alcohol is more important than being with family then they will have to get a hotel nearby or not come. If you have already promised your sister a place to stay and there just isn't anymore room then that is the way it is.

You should put your family first, your sister should stay. Why spend time time with people you don't like, if your husbands parents need a lift then why not take a taxi. Why spoil your New Year for the sake of a free ride. Whether your sister asked first or last is irrelevant, she's your sister she comes before friends, in this case not even friends. Why spend time time with people you don't like, lifes too short.

I hate in-laws, they only cause trouble...have your sister stay over and tell your husband to chill. Make a small sacrifice by letting your in-laws invite their friends (to the social club) so they have a ride back to their house. This way you don't have to wake up the next morning to hearing their annoying voices and to catering to their needs...

I don' t think of i could enable my new child to bypass to a NYE occasion with sixteen young ones unsupervised. Even at 13, even at sixteen! If it have been in my domicile, i think of an grownup needs to be present day tho possibly not soaring. in case you popped in each now and then it might paintings ok. additionally, do you have an previous (or maybe new) infant reveal screen? i understand my receiver works in my around the corner neighbor's domicile ... may well be worth investment. additionally, i could block out the grownup channels and save them off the pc. not inevitably your little ones yet with others, you nver understand who they may well be chatting with.

if your mother and father in law want to invite friends of theirs, maybe they enjoy their company? it's not like you and your sister and her partner have to spend every second entertaining them.

meanwhile, you guys are using your inlaws for a ride home... think about it. is that fair?

Get mom and Dad to tell the other couple that its a "Family only" affair...

People will be too drunk to care where they crash.
