My mother was given a dvd to view on how bad our meat is in our country. Now she will not eat or buy any type of meat unless she can get it directly from a farmers market or its 100% natural from the super market.
Is there anything I can do to counter this move by mother.

Mother told us that we better get use to beans and more beans. If we want meat, beans will be our meat from now on.
I',m not looking forward to Christmas dinner this year.

I really feel sorry for you man. There's so much negativity out there now it's hard to counteract. It's much easier to spread false rumors as facts than to discover the truth. About the only thing I can suggest is to try sites like the American Meat Institute and Institute of Food Technologists. Although it is predominantly critical of the food industry Center for Science in the Public Interest may also give you some ammunition.

I'm so sorry, I hate when people try to change people's opinions about food, you might have to deal with it, but see at my house (definitely not into the vegetarian bull crap) we found that a lot of the meat we had has bad hormones in the meat from what they feed it, we still by anything pork or chicken from the store but for beef we bought a cow at a 4H sale, it's corn-fed only, no growth hormones, just natural and we also bought a freezer to keep it in, every time we want some you just thaw it out for a few hours and even after being frozen it's the most amazing beef you could have, the thing is we only have half of a cow, my uncle has the other half and it's lasted us a year so far and we still have more, it's great. I'm having steaks tonight from our cow.
but it could be a good thing for your mom to be watching the meat, as long as she's not trying to take it out of the house then it should be ok, just makes sure you're all stocked up (I can't live without my meat, bacon, sausage, steak, ribs, and chicken wings are definitely not to be messed with)
if she watched a video from peta you could show them how corrupt they are, on youtube there's a video called Bullsh*t and it's countering peta, I'll give you a link, but good luck, i hope you can turn her around. I know I'd be furious if my mom started messing with my food.

I have to agree that the hormones and antibiotics fed to our beef supply are probably not that good for us. Mind you, it's not enough to stop me from eating meat, but it has made me more likely to try grass-fed organic beef (a little tougher, but more flavorful than regular beef) and other meat sources.

Perhaps you or your mother knows a hunter nearby she can buy meat from. Or perhaps you can find a butcher that has wild game available. Some don't like the taste of game like venison (I love it myself), so it may be an acquired taste.

Your mother may also want to look into wild caught fish. But be careful. Some fish species are being fished at unsustainable levels and should not be eaten.

Why would you want to? The only way to know that meat is healthy is to get it directly from a farmers market (you can't trust the labels at the supermarket). Organic meat tastes better too!!

You know, asking vegans and vegetarians how to counter your mom's decision to buy less cruelly produced meat as opposed to the hormone- and antibiotic-laced dreck in most supermarkets is not exactly a smart move. Ask someone else or I'll send you to a pro-vegetarian website.

I don't understand what is so wrong with her buying better raised and probably better tasting meat? What is the big deal, are you paying for it? Or are you just a troll?

Your mother has made a truly good decision. I think you should try and see it from her point of view. She is wanting a healthier lifestyle for herself and her family so I don't understand your complaint!. You shouldn't do anything to counter her choice, if you want something different then think about getting a part-time and buy your own food.

Leave her alone. If she wants to waste her money on "specialty" meats, let her. They are no better in my opinion than what you get at the super market. You are not going to change her mind.

What's your complaint?

Sounds like your mom is still buying meat. Be happy she didn't force you all to eat a vegetarian diet.
