There is wildlife everywhere in the countryside, though in many areas many less birds and animals are able to survive than in the past, due to destruction of habitats like ponds and hedgerows, We also have a network of national nature reserves and much countryside owned by the National Trust where traditional rural landscapes are preserved and wildlife is able to survive more easily. One of the most beautiful of the national nature reserves is Kingley Vale in West Sussex north of Chichester.
Situated in the chalk downland called The South Downs, it is the largest Yew tree forest in Europe.
