Please help. I've tried Thai food before and I hated it. My boss decided today that he wants to take us to Thai food with some important clients. I can't stand curry, I absolutely detest it because it stinks bad. While I like some Chinese food (Well at least what I've encountered from places around here that is called Chinese food), I generally like my food simple. I'm a meat and potatoes kinda guy.

What can I order at a sit down Thai restaurant that most resembles food I might find at a typical American style or basic Chinese takeout place (like chicken w/ broccoli and rice)?

Please help so I know what to order that will be least likely to make me suffer. My stomach isn't very forgiving to strange foods.

Likes: Plain or brown rice, chicken, beef, shrimp, pork, broccoli.
Hates: Curry, fish sauce, anything overly stinky, excessive onions, coconuts, mint.

If they have it, Railroad fried rice (kow-pad-rot-fie), which is just brown rice, chicken, shrimp, and a few veggies cooked like traditional fried rice. Not spicy or "stinky."

I also like Pad See Hew, which is chicken with wide rice noodles and broccoli, dressed with soy sauce.

I would have bbq chicken (usually an appetizer at Thai places around here), fried rice, larb (ground meat served with lettuce wraps).

Usually, the menus give some good descriptions of the dishes. If the restaurant you're going to has a website, you can check it out.

Also, most of the Thai restaurants around here serve a lot of Chinese dishes so those might be more familiar for you.

Order Pad Thai. It's a great noodle dish that is not flavored by curry. Traditionally it comes with shrimp but some will give other options (like chicken). It's the national dish of Thailand so is likely to be on any menu

I'd recommend trying the satay (skewered meats) or better yet some Thai restaruants have grilled chicken which has kind of a sweet glaze, but at least you avoid the curry and excessive onions, coconut milk... etc.

Another good, less stinky dish, is cashew nut chicken.

Try ordering something like a pineapple fried rice or any kind of fried rice on the menu. Also try Pad Thai, which is a noodle dish with shrimp (or chicken) and bean sprouts and peanuts.

Most likely they will have just a plain Fried Rice dish... I would go with that if you are so hateful of Thai Food. Otherwise they will probably have a stir-fry dish that is beef or chicken with some simple "american" veggies...in a brown sauce.
You didn't mention that you don't like lemon, so i am assuming you do....they may have a lemongrass flavored soup with chicken in it that is good.

just wanted to let ya know not ALL Thai food is stinky or based upon curry....Thai food is full of bold flavors verses deep fried fat covered foods that most americans eat. (no offense to people who know they eat healthy, not fat covered foods!!! Not implying all americans eat food thats BAD for them!)

Here is what i would do Compusmack: It sounds like you know where you are going SOooo, call the place and tell them you need to have something ng that resembles grilled steak and boiled lobster with out curry. Tell them you are allergic to some of the ingredients in curry & to peanuts and that don't want to make a scene when you arrive to the restaurant with your boss & guests. Before sitting go to the head waiter and tell 'em who you are and they should be able to fix you up. When everyone orders you just say & it comes your turn... "They already know what i like".

you can order chicken staty for mail with rice.its grilled dice chicken meat and the sauce is peanut sauce with concunt milk.
or perhaps you can order pad Thai, its stir fly rice noodle with bean sprout, tofu, shrimp, egg.and lemon.
for starters: you can order spring rolls(it will be the same as Chinese style).
you can order sticky rice with mango for dessert.if you don't like the sticky rice, you can always just eat the mango.
