Is it a canker sore or a fever blister/cold sore? Canker sores are not STD's and is not contagious. But a fever blister/cold sore is just as contagious as the TYPE 2 STD (HSV2) & can be transmitted through bodily fluid, saliva being one of them....it is very contagious! Canker sores are sometimes mistaken to be the herpes simplex virus they look very similar....but are not....

if the person has a cold sore at the time and drinks your drink you can get it but not through food

if the person had a cold sore at the time and your sharing their food, utensils, or drinks then u could possibly get cold sores as well.
