Thanks for all the help guys! i have a rough outline completed, and i think your ideas will really add some punch to it. i looked all around for "24 hours solo" but i could not find it. ive decided that i will hook up my ipod video to a projector and show a slideshow to go with it and mabye some cool movie clips. if you could suggest some outstanding, jawdropping scenes or clips, it would be great. and any web sites with lots of mountain bike pictures would help. Thanks!

I actually did a report in speech class in high school on my road bike. I brought it in (do this if you can) and talked about the design and how it related to performance. That took about 10 minutes. I blew everyone away. I had about 20 minutes of questions afterwords because everyone was so interested (the teacher had to stop the questions as it was the end of class time). One thing was - way back then know one knew anything about cycling before MTBs and Lance so it was something totally new to the class.

Maybe talk about the thrill of the ride, of clearing sections of the road, the people you meet. I would think that would be more intresting than learning that a rear hub can have 18, 36 or more engagement points, the different type of brakes, and the differences between a horst link, DW Link or VPP designs, etc..
Talk about maybe the different types of riding, like if its XC, freeride, downhill, 4X, etc.. What makes mtb different from road biking, different types of races, 12/24 hours, Super D, cross country.

id start with a little mt. bike history, not enough to bore people though and say how its evolved now to dual suspensions, carbon fiber and alternative metals, frame geometry, etc...you could also elaborate on how the sport has evolved to people now doing downhill competitions. Benefits of mt. biking? Dangers? Maybe one of your own personal tails? Different classes of trails. If you have suspension take some time with this and show how your shocks work (bring your pump in) and give the principal of how they work.

i'm with M R and Andrew...i think if you add an explaination of the evolution of moutain bikes, and touch on basic bike design (materials, basic frame shape/style, and such), it might all make a bit more sense to folks that don't know all that much about bikes to begin with...
