First, you can disregard any Answers you get here. Everyone who answered has great advice, but we don't know why your iron is low; we don't have your lab results; we don't know your age/sex/medications/health problems.

Yes, improving your diet and taking supplements may help some types of anemia. With other types, however, it's not helpful.

There are many different types of anemia (low iron), from the trivial (hot weather can cause temporary anemia) to serious (lymph cancer can cause anemia). The article below will list 8 different causes of anemia and how to deal with them.

This is a good source on anemia: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/anemia/DS00321

It is important to know why your iron is low. If you're a woman, your hematocrit (blood iron) should be 35-45; if you're a man it should be 45-55. You cannot be diagnosed with anemia without evaluation by a physician.

Put beef back into your menus. 3 times a day. Beef is very high in hemi iron which is the easiest for the body to absorb. Eat spinach leaf salads with good full fat dressings. Tomatos also have lots of iron in them.

See how many people who believe the "experts" that beef is bad for you get along. Almost all are low in iron!!! Fishies won't do it. Chicken won't do it. strict vegan diet won't do it.

I cannot take the iron supplements. They do a number on me that isn't even funny. So eat the beef or lamb and the spinach salads!!

If you are not carb challanged, try the bananas, but if you are, leave them alone!

Depending on your age and gender, depends what your RDA is. Most women need 18mg/day and there are certain things that inhibit and enhance iron absorption. Things that enhance are vit. C, sugars, meat, fish, and poultry. Things that inhibit are coffee and tea (the polyphenols), and high amounts of zinc, calcium, and phosphorous. So, make sure you are consuming the RDA and consume less of the inhibitors. It is very common for women to be low in iron, so perhaps after consulting with your doctor a supplement may be necessary, but make sure you read the label and see how much iron is in one tablet, iron has a an upper limit (which means do not exceed in one day) of 45 mg/day

Eat liver and onions, take iron supplements. I have never been able to increase mine either. I guess having a healthy diet helps as well. I bruise very easy and that's what everyone says it's from...not enough iron.

Eat plenty of dark leafy vegetables. Take an iron supplement, if you need to hurry in bringing the level up.

Also, try drinking a shotglass of kosher blackberry wine before dinner: That's what a doctor told my mother to do when she turned up with a problem with anemia. And it did seem to help.

Good luck!

Green leafy vegetables, beef, pork, and lamb are all high in iron. Vitamin C helps absorb this iron. Try eating a spinach salad with oranges in it or try drinking orange juice in the morning with a high iron diet.

Speak with your doctor or a nutritionist, forget the vitamins, sometimes if your not on a regimented scale, you can do more harm then good. Eat a good diet, eat healthy and more red meats at a young age.
