I know this isn't a food question but I thought a vegetarian or vegan could help. I don't care for leather and was wondering what big brand companies (e.g. Columbia, Keen, Timberland), make leather free footwear that is suitable for hiking?

My daughter finds DSW, Payless & a few others carrying leather free products. I'm sorry I think you need to go on line or call the companies of those you listed.

Many of todays hiking shoes do no use leather (ven when treated, it is inefficient in keeping out moisture) but synthetic rubber and othe materals. Check company websites or call them for details

I don't know of any brands specifically, but Vegan Essentials (www.veganessentials.com), Pangea (www.veganstore.com), and MooShoes (www.mooshoes.com) should all have boots that would be sutiable for hiking.

A Canadian company called Toe Warmers makes boots for women, some of which might be suitable for hiking. I have some nice boots (not for hiking) and they keep my feet nice and toasty in the wintertime.
