I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "funding agencies", but solar power has gotten a huge boost by all sorts of backers in the last few years. Wall Street has funded hundreds of start up solar companies the last few years, many of which have done very well:

Also big business is going solar as well. Wal Mart and Google are both big supporters and users of solar:

Pretty much the only "agency" I can think of that hasn't really supported solar power is our federal government. Perhaps because of our President's vast connection to the oil and gas industries??
