I have chronic bronchitis. This means I get it when the weather changes from warm to cold, It starts out as a cold and then settles in my chest causing congestion and coughing. When I cough I don't bring up the congestion and I have to use a decongestant cough syrup to break up the congestion. It can be caused when someone in your family has bronchial asthma like my Mom. My Dr. said mine was from breathing in second hand smoke from my aunt and uncle who smoked for 27 years.

According to the American Lung Association, Smoking is the number one way to get bronchitis; but , thats kind of hard to believe in a child, unless, mom and dad and siblings or aunts and uncles or grandparents smoke around them. Also, it can be a viral infection! Once someone aquires a bronchial infection, they can get one easily the next time they "catch" a cold.
