best is plain water. soda try diet rite, no carbs like most diet soda , but also no sodium (salt) , no caffeine. be careful of the word "diet" in sodo , not all diet soda or drinks are sugar-free and / or carb free.

The best soft drink for me, might not be the best for you. I like Diet Pepsi Max® for its taste and the kick from the caffeine and ginseng.

In the evening, however, I prefer a caffeine free Diet Pepsi®

It's good that you don't drink alcohol. I can tell you from experience that it's not a very pleasant experience for a diabetic to drink too much. You pay dearly for a couple of days afterward. A small glass of red wine on occasion, might be okay, but I've learned to simply stay far away from alcohol.

Diet Rite Zero, it is even okayed by the American Diabetes Association. I'm a type 2 diabetic as well and I drink it. I really like the cola and cherry cola flavors!!

With the newer types of insulin these days, diabetic diets aren't necessarily as restrictive as they used to be. Read here https://tr.im/0M425
As with any medicine or diet change, you should discuss it with your doctor. Fruits, both fresh and dried, have a natural sugar in them that will raise blood sugar levels, so be careful about eating too much. Not sure about the nuts. Moderation is always the key. I've been diabetic for 18 years and just recently changed insulin types. I love it because it gives me more freedom in when and what I eat.

. Diet drinks carry a whole set of negative side effects which makes them undesirable. Water is always a good choice but who want to drink water all the time. unsweetened ice tea is good. there are studies that show tea is helpful for diabetics . If you eating food you maybe able to tolerate a little sugar in the ice tea. When I go out I order unsweetened ice tea and carry stevia with me . Stevia is a natural sweetener that will not raise your BG level.
For something different try fruit juice and plain seltzer water. But avoid friut drinks that have a lot of sugar added and water and often little fruit juice for flavoring.
Oh then there's hot beverages coffee and tea ,if you use cream or milk in them ,it need not be counted .

I would say water or anything that is diet like: Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, Diet Doctor Pepper Ect. I am a type 1 diabetic and when my family and I go out to eat I normally get something diet or water.

Best of Luck!!! :D
