Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed by our body for daily life. The cause of diabetes continues to be a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors such as obesity and lack of exercise appear to play major roles. An estimate says about 12 per cent of the world population suffer from diabetes of which just little over 50 per cent people are diagnosed with the disease, while the rest unfortunately not aware of that they have the disease.

In order to determine whether or not a patient has pre-diabetes or diabetes, health care providers conduct a Fasting Plasma Glucose Test (FPG) or an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT). Either test can be used to diagnose pre-diabetes or diabetes.

Causes-
Type 1 diabetes is when the pancreas completly stops making insulin and this has to be treated by regular injections of insulin otherwise your blood sugar gets too high an dthis can, after ages, have a life threatening effect.

I'm not too sure about type 2 but I think it is when the pancreas stuggles to make enough insulin. This is treated differently but I don't know enough about that to say how. I think it's a tablet or something.

Hope that helps :)

== Type 2 Diabetes ==

The above statement is true - only half of the pancreas is available to create insulin. Type 2 diabetics take different forms of meds including Metformin and Byetta, which help to control the over abundance of sugars in the bloodstream. Some Type 2 diabetics also require Insulin, particularly at night before bedtime when their blood sugar count is too high the following morning.

Proper diet and nutrition is the key to help control this disease. Most anyone can 'eat' themselves into being diabetic - I did - now I pay the consequenses, but I also don't let it drag my life down either - life goes on - life is great - just have to really watch what one eats more closely.-

Diabetes mellitus, often simply diabetes (Greek: διαβήτης), is a syndrome characterized by disordered metabolism and inappropriately high blood sugar (hyperglycaemia) resulting from either low levels of the hormone insulin or from abnormal resistance to insulin's effects coupled with inadequate levels of insulin secretion to compensate. The characteristic symptoms are excessive urine production (polyuria), excessive thirst and increased fluid intake (polydipsia), and blurred vision; these symptoms are likely absent if the blood sugar is only mildly elevated.

Diabetes is NOT caused by eating sugar or sweets. That's a myth and it's totally false.

It's a disease where the body either doesn't produce enough insulin or the body can't use the insulin that it does produce.

It can be caused by genetics, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, stress, drug induced, or pregnancy.

Diabetes is caused due to defficiency of insulin-one`s body is unable to secret insulin which helps in absorbing the sugar in red blood cells. Insulin decreases the blood glucose level. Our body needs glucose to produce energy.Insulin helps the entry of glucose into all cells of the body--Insulin while pressing the body to convert the glucose into energy which is required to perform---- But when insulin is insufficient then glucose is not transported to energy.Insulin helps in the entry of amino acid into cells. Insulin maintains the blood sugar level. Fall of sugar causes-hyperglycaemia and severe consequences.

diabetes is a metabolic disorder. there is a organ called "pancreas" which produces insulin a hormone to regulate blood sugar to help glucose get into the cells of our bodies. when insulin is not produced in sufficient amount to burn the blood sugar in our body , condition is known as diabetes. Most of the food we eat is turned into glucose, or sugar, for our bodies to use for energy. Insulin needed to convert sugar, starches and other food we consume into energy needed for daily life.

in diabetes body either doesn't make enough insulin or can not use its own insulin as well as it should. This causes sugar to build up in the blood.

it might be hereditary passed from 1 generation to other or environment because of obesity, sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet appear to play roles.

in type 1 diabetes the body's failure to produce insulin, the hormone that "unlocks" the cells of the body, allowing glucose to enter them.
when it develops at younger age and is only can be controlled by "insulin" is known as type 1 or insulin dependent diabetes or juvenile-onset diabetes.

when it occurs later in life and controlled by any other hypoglycaemic agents (any drug to control blood sugar levels) it is called type 2 or non-insulin dependent diabetes or adult-onset diabetes. Type 2 diabetes results from insulin resistance a condition in which the body fails to properly use insulin, combined with relative insulin deficiency

also there is a condition Gestational diabetes develops in pregnancy.

and few times blood sugars also raised because of stress which is a temporary phase.
