Cocktail parties are not keggers, so I don't see why it would be dangerous.
Besides, have you ever thrown a party for a 3 year old? They're 3, they don't need a big party, it would be a waste of money. The people who get invited to a 3 year olds party are generally
1.Family
2. Friends of their parents
If her parents friends are still childless, then there probably wouldn't be many children there anyways.
If you really feel that bad about it then I suggest that you use your own money to throw the child a party. Otherwise, mind your own business, prohibition ended a long time ago and having a martini while in the same house as your 3 year old is not "dangerous".

I think it's fine. It's an adult cocktail party, not a frat party! The kid will enjoy the gifts and attention of mom's friends and the adults will enjoy their social time.
If she were having a holiday cocktail party, her child would be there and people might bring their children too.
Cocktail parties are not inherently dangerous to children. Many adults routinely socialize with cocktails with their kids around. It's pretty normal in many parts of the country.

sheesh people take it easy on the parents on this one. If this was a holiday celebration dont you think that people are gonna bring their kids and have a few drinks. Most people are responsible enough to not get sloshed at a childs birthday party and if someone does someone really needs to talk to that person. Parents deserve to get a break and have some fun too and I highly bout that this is a all out keg fest going on just some parents getting together to have a drink or two

Well, parents drink quite often with their children around. My concern is if everyone is going to be responsible about it or not. I don't think there's a problem combining a child's party with an adult social. I'm assuming there's going to be other children there, right? And I hope that if this is what is taking place, there are going to be designated drivers. I detest seeing, or hearing of, people driving after drinking.

I guess I'm not sure what the big deal is. You are assuming that all the parents are going to get drunk and not pay attention to the children or worse! I'd say, this is a terrible judgment and assumption to make! Were you even invited? And if you were, have you talked to the hostess about what the parameters of the party are? Perhaps you should ask if there's anything you can bring and see what happens.

Just an excuse to have a party. As a daughter of alcoholic parents, there is nothing worse than having your parents choose to party over you. Jerks.
EDIT: Remember folks, this is the CHILD's birthday. It isn't just a cocktail party for the adults.

i think that party is more for your neighbor than for their child, i have heard of cocktail parties, and birthday parties for children, but i have never heard of cocktail parties for children
i personally think that she is being selfish, this party seems to be centered around her instead of what should be centered around the child

I think it's stupid. It's not even proper to celebrate a child's birthday that way. The only fun the adult's have is getting drunk and being careless.
