With all the international bickering going on, it occured to me that its the holidays that we americans waste the most. If we weren't so flagarant with all the holiday lights, both individually (with our home lawn displays) & commercially (the displays around retailers & community centers.

Wouldn't we make at least a dent in the amount of wasted electricity we use this holiday season?

Displays don't have to waste electricity, just those with little creativity or lacking in common environmental sense.
Its bad enough I have to pay $4 a gallon for my honda.

Will you email your city council person & your senators to do something to cut the waste in this country this holiday season?

Coming from a different country, I have observed for quite some time how much waste in so many areas there is here. From the huge cars, big portions of food that gets trown away, water to keep nice green lawns everywhere, everything here is taken for granted, everything is too easy, the comfort, etc. People think that by carrying their own bags to a store when they're shopping they are going to save the world. You are right, it takes so much more than what it's been done today , and I honestly doubt that americans are ready to sacrifice all ther comodities to save the planet. It would have to get a lot worse than it is right now for all of us to do the change we really need to do.

Why do you think this is a waste. The people who put up the lights do so voluntarily and they pay for the electricity. Thus, it is a choice they make and would certainly not make this choice if they did not get something back in return and they must feel that what they get back is worth at least as much as what they have spent. Thus, it is not a waste at all, simply a market choice.

No, I will not play the scrooge to your grinch.

How do you waste electricity? Keep it until it goes bad, then just throw it out?

I pay just $2.90 a gallon for my Jeep. Thanks for conserving. It keeps my costs low.
