To be a person is a call, a great dignity, possesses an extrinsic worth. His response is his recognition and acceptance of God's image in him. His responsibility to (1) be oneself, (2) be with others, (3) be for others, like Christ the perfect man, the image of God in man

Many people have amassed vast fortunes, without knowing Jesus Christ as their Savior, or giving any recognition to God for their success. As an individual you do have a responsibility to take care of your self, but you must not place your welfare or that of your family and loved ones, before God. The Holy Bible records Jesus saying, "any one who loves father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me."
That might sound cruel or dogmatic to some, but to a true born again Christian, God comes first and family second.

To me, it states that oneself comes first, then others, as Jesus was.

I am not religious person, looking from a different vantage point I use the energy of the words, how can you love, respect, honor someone if those things does not come from within oneself first?
