For an interesting article on the nature of (Jewish) Bible prophecy, check out the following link -

http://www.moriel.org/articles/sermons/midrash.htm

Although I would not necessarily endorse all that is taught here or on this site, the last quarter of the article is particularly helpful in understanding biblical prophecy.

Blessings. x

Greeting how are you ? I think it is a good question and I am just going to share my views about this chapter as much as I do know. This verse that is often quoted to show that Jesus was fullfilling has been fullfilled and still is being fullfilled. Zechariah was a prophet of the Lord and as the lord revealed this message he was shown glemps of the future state of Jerusalem. So in its intirety it wasn't fullfilled but will be because it has a local and world wide application to Israel and those that believe on Jesus. Verse 10,"The spirit of grace and supplications" This applys to the bringing in of a better covenant in which we recieve pardon and mercy on the account of what Jesus has done(Jerem31:27,33-34 &Hebrews 15:17). We are told even by Jesus to pray in his name ask, knock, seek we shall find, on the condition we keep God commandments.(John 14:13-17) In his admonishing us to pray and believe we(The Church of Christ) are promised the outpouring and leading of the Holyspirit ( The Spirit of grace). Now regaurding, John 19:37, this is how we know it was Jesus whom the Zechariah 12:10 spoke of. Under Rome's goverment (Kingdom) we know threw history that Pontius Pilate did preside over Jesus cruxcifiction. It was not done in a corner but openly and the apostles do testify that he was nailed to the cross. So this prophecy in fullfillment still applies to all that has looked upon him(Jesus) and believe in his redemption by faith. Seeing the new covenant was made with the house of Israel it applies to them as well as the gentiles, God has joined to them. That if we look to christ and see by faith his cruxcifixion believing it was for our sins we will recieve the Spirit of grace and supplications. May you be blessed as well... ya prince in the kingdom.

Zech. 12 was not fullfill in John 19:37, Zech. Chapter twelve speaks of things that will take place soon, & a lot of it is already taking place, For God will make Jerusalem a what, First a Cup of tremling, Then a burdensome stone, 2 things at the end, God will make Jerusalem 3: And in that day I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone to who, To All those nations that bothers themselve with what the final outcome status of Jerusalem will be, God will cut all those nations into pieces, & now you are starting to see some of this taking place, That is why 40 nations went to Annapolis,4: In that day I will smite every horse with astonisment, This does not mean that Horses will go insane, But In our time we live in now we would say in that day I will smite every airplane or tank with each soilder insanity, The Lord shall save the house of Judah first, Judah is Israel's fighting tribe9: And it shall come to pass in that day, what day? The day when many nations shall burden themselves with Jerusalem I will seek to destroy all the nations that come agaisnt Jerusalem., the first part of verse 7 was fulfilled in the 6 day war, The Lord shall save the tents of Judah first.. Now John 19:37 & Zech. 12:12 does pertain to the same time frame. But we have to see first that all these other prophecies has to be fulfilled, In order for Israel to have all their land back, so in order to see what Israel did to their messiah. We are now beginning to see many nations burdening themselves with Jerusalem, & God will destroy those nations, No it does not means these nations will be completely wipe out, but their government shall fall.

You are right to emphasize "COMPLETELY" as most Scripture has more that one fulfillment. I believe that you have identified one of those Scriptures. The "first" fulfillment may indeed be the John 19 passage where the soldiers have identified Jesus as the Christ but the "second" or more complete fulfillment will be when the entire people of Israel look upon Jesus as the Christ. That has not yet occurred and I believe that it will only be fulfilled during the final phase of the tribulation period mentioned in Daniel and Revelation.

Excellent question.

Hope that helps.

No, not even a little bit!

The previous chapters make it clear that he is rambling on about contempary issues. In fact, Zecahariah contains some classic false prophesy, for example:-

"No oppressor shall pass through them any more."
Israel shall never again be oppressed. obviously false prophecy; Israel has been occupied many times since the time of Zechariah.

and

"Thy King cometh ... riding upon an ***, and upon a colt the foal of an ***."
The gospels (especially Mt.21:4-5 and Jn.12:14-15) claim that Jesus fulfils the prophecy of Zech.9:9. But the next few verses (9:10-13) show that the person referred to in this verse is a military king that would rule "from sea to sea". Since Jesus had neither an army or a kingdom, he could not have fulfilled this prophecy.

What, give up pointing out the stupidity and nastiness of Christianity? Nope! As long as there are people using Yahoo to promote their vile creed, I'll be pointing out the obvious!

More importantly to know that God keeps His promises in that He will save a remnant of Israel as Romans 11 declares. He is faithful! As many christians today think God has already cast them out, but His glory will be made known when that remnant of Israel is saved! ALL of that remnant will "know Him" as it says in Jeremiah 31.

Yes, and how beautifully the prophecy was, especially the 10th verse, "And I WILL pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the SPIRIT OF GRACE and of supplications::::::and they shall look upon ME whom they have pierced and they shall mourn for him, AS one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn."

How can anyone not see this as what it is? God was speaking, "and they shall look upon ME". Beautiful!!!

Let's go back a few chapters to 3:8-9, "...for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH. For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes; behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the Lord of hosts, and I WILL REMOVE THE INIQUITY OF THAT LAND IN ONE DAY."

Ephesians 2:20, "And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone". That is the "one stone".
