I Got All the Items that I need, But The Soap I got is kinda big but i got this white bottle that is small, clear and square, secure seal, but i can only fit enough soap in there to last about 2 weeks, BMT is 6 weeks, anyway the AF site says bring enough to last about a week, does this mean that we will get issued soap later on? (Bodywash) or should i just go ahead and take the big soap bottle?

I guess the main question is, How much Liquid Body wash should I take?

- I hate Soap Bars, so no way i'm taking one of those.. itchy as ***

Go buy a plastic soap dish that has a cover.

Buy a bar of soap that fits inside it.

You won't be using it during basic training anyway.

Everyone will wash with Peral Shampoo

It doesn't live soap scum that has to be scrubbed off the walls and floor later.

The answerer is right..ge ta BARof soap. Do NOT take bodywash unless you want to be called names for 6 weeks. Anything out of the ordinary will make you stand out a mile long and TI's LOVE to pick on people. Get a bar of non-descript soap (not Dove unless you want to be called Dove).
While you are a Lackland they will give you an AAFES giftcard in the amount of $250. You will use this everytime they take you to buy supplies. After zero week, you will go to get stuff, that's why you only need one week worth. That $250 is taken out of your first check too.
Just some advice, also wear plain clothing to Basic...my husband had guys in his squadron that were called Nike, Reebok, and Addidas through training because of thier clothing.

EDIT: If you insist on taking badywash bring enough for ONE week. You'll go shopping for more within a week of arriving. Get a couple trade sized bottles and you should be good to go...good Luck cleaning a body wash bottle...they even check the threads in the bottle and cap.

Good answers from everyone...but here's what happened at basic when I went through. I took a bar of soap with me but our TI recommend that we get bottles of bodywash (Herbal Essence to be exact). His reasoning, as someone mentioned, was that you won't have to worry about keeping your soap tray clean. So when the time came to go shopping for our toiletry items I'd say 95% of our flight bought bodywash and no called anyone "foo-foo".

So what should you do? I'd say take a bar a soap with you to BMT, THEN buy a bottle(or 2) of body wash when you get there.
A) You don't have to worry about it leaking all over your stuff in your suitcase.
B) You'll only need the soap for about a week then you can throw it out.

One last suggestion, if you are ever dorm guard and someone refuses to show you their ID, even though they are on the list to come in, DON"T let them in ...go grab your TI.

Feel free to email me any questions.
Good Luck and try to have fun.

It means you'll be buying soap after a week. And if they do it like the Army, the place you'll go will only sell soap in bar form, so get used to it. Chances are you won't be allowed to have bodywash. Hell, I wasn't allowed to have shampoo.

You're in basic training. You'll have time to use whatever soap you want later.

Do not take a bar of soap. It will be close to impossible to keep the container you keep it in clean. Would you rather be called a "foo foo" during Basic or continously earn demerits because your soap tray is not clean enough? You will be able to purchase extra soap should you run out. Good luck.

Don't worry about it. Your TI WILL tell you what he wants you to use (and that you can take to the bank)
Even tho' it was almost 50 years ago, what I found to work best was 'the simpler the better'.
Since at 17 all I had was peach fuzz I took an electric razer (no gigs for dirty razer or shaving cream container) Small tubes of tooth past have less time to get messy. Same with your container of body wash. (just don't take a pink spunge)

Jeeper P and the other two guys are right. You will not have time to clean out your soap dish to inspection standards. On our second or third day, our TI marched over to the BX and "encouraged" us to buy a large green bottle of shampoo (I think it might have been Perl) and that's what we used.

dude, save yourself endless ridicule: Go buy a BAR of soap, and leave the bodywash home with mom. Once you get out of basic and into the "real AF" then you can lather yourself up with as much foo-foo stuff that you want.

The guy above me is right..
it's nearly impossible to keep your soap tray clean and you recieve demerits for RETARDED things.
[[I got demerits for d.o. residue on the cap]]
so, think..
would you rather be called foo foo or..not get demerits???
