First of all, sorry for my English (I'm Italian).

I read it everywhere that, and it seems that it happens for all religions and confession.
Please could you explain me why?

Simply put, it's because there's a lot more diversity. People who moved to the northwest originally (we're talking about Oregon, and Washington...or at least I am) moved there for the solitude.

The focus at first was on survival, rather than faith. There are some religious areas in the northwest, but most areas aren't.

I'm the only Christian in my main circle of friends. Almost everyone else is pagan or atheist, though there are some agnostics as well.

People who live in the whole of the United Kingdom generally are less religious than the whole of Ugh-merica.
It's all to do with education really.
Yankee doodle dandy landers from the North West are probably closer to the level of intelligence demonstrated by people from the british isles (excluding Eire). Whereas people from the rest of America tend to be Obese, and therefore stupid.

Well honestly people do not like to admit it but it is because the North won the Civil War and to cope with the Reconstruction the Southerners had to lean heavily on their faith. Just like the slaves embraced Christianity to cope with the treatment of being slaves.

You're right, though there's also a drop west of the New England states down to Florida. (URL1)

In most cases it's a matter of what each generation is raised to, by family and the local society. (URL2)
Beyond that I suspect it's down to accidents of history, just as the clustering of the "Mormon" states.

It depends on where in the northwest. I am in Montana and it is very much bible-belt. There are some liberal areas with more Atheists and less religious people. I think it would depend on the surveys and just where it was taken.

I don't know the answer, but if I were to guess it would either be the media, or society's view on religion.

I'm sure that the fact that they live further away from the "Bible Belt" could have something to do with it.

Its because, that is where Hell begins and the devil dwells!

They must be smarter over there! And the "church" mustn't have as much power, either!
