I work with more than 30 art galleries and 50 art events and each one of them is struggling to make money. Art sales in galleries is not that easy to sustain. Membership galleries that get "members" and charge them an annual fee seem to do better than just a for profit art gallery these days. If you have deep pockets, go right ahead. The art business is a business after all and many things have to be right for a gallery to be profitable. Oh--all galleries have websites so you have to offer more than that too.

I have galleries that teach classes, but it can be hard to get teachers and to fill classes---do tons of research first and be bold. Ask local galleries how they are doing, ask artists how lucrative the art scene is where you want to open and make sure you get a stable of exciting artists that will bring in collectors. An art gallery owner should be well connected socially, be a whiz at business, have an eye for great art and be basically a warm, outgoing person with nerves of steel. Good Luck. But a caveat-owning an art gallery is not an easy thing to do. At the most maybe one painting will sell per show and it is hard to pay the rent with that.
Kids galleries with classes for kids and families is more lucrative.
