The thief on the cross was saved by faith in Jesus Christ. Yet the Bible says we must be baptized. The Lord said to remember Him in the sacrament. Does that mean I forget without it? The ordinances of the Gospel were established so that we could make a public confirmation of an inward conversion.

Every religion has rituals. Rituals exist mostly as a reminder of what we believe and why we believe it. Look at the rituals God instituted to Isreal in the book of Leviticus. Look at the rituals that Christ instituted before his death (breaking and blessing of bread and wine). Prayer is a ritual. Baptism is a ritual.

No true Mormon will ever claim that salvation comes in any way but through Jesus Christ. The rituals we have exist to remind us of our faith and help keep us from falling into temptation and sin, the same reason that ancient Isreal had rituals and the same reason that the original church Christ set up had rituals.
