People hate the truth, can't stand the truth, and argue against the truth, BUT will "make up" truth about others.
People always want to be seen as better then others, human nature.
Most people act one way and speak another. Most people will lie under oath in a court.
Most people will put words into the mouths of the dead so as to suit their own purposes.
Etc.

"You want answers?"
"I want the truth!"
"You can't handle the truth"
(Nicholson and Cruise: "A few Good Men")
Unpleasant, costly truths are often avoided, for the more comfortable and convenient lie, or myth.
If you'd like it biblical it goes back to:
"I wasn't me, it was the woman"
"It wasn't me, it was the snake."
This is completely apart from cases where there's a genuine dispute about what the truth is.
I once was involved in a poll question about this, unknowingly.
After listening to a fairy tale ("The Sorceress' daughter") those present, about 120, were asked whether the daughter had faced her dilemma correctly, in the story.
Only six of us, including me, thought she'd chosen wrongly.
The rest thought, presented with what was effectively a parable, that it was right to choose a pleasant fantasy over an unpleasant reality.

Why do so many people hate things? You'll have to be more specific than that. The truth about what? Which people? Free me from what?

The truth has been twisted, it's the same reason why people hate a lie.

People fear that the truth may not support their beliefs - fear of the truth is nothing new.
But I don't think people hate the truth as such - that would be like hating the number 6
(though I guess people could hate facts about their existence - such as 'I hate my acne')

Some people really love the truth, for others I think it is more of a fear issue. They will do anything to avoid it and it is frustrating to them to try to run from it.
