Run hands under cool water, do not use ice or ice pack as it could compund the problem with frost bite. Apply aloe and keep a close eye on them. If in doubt about how severe the burn is take him or her to the doctor.

Hi, With first degree burns the pain usually lasts 48 to 72 hours and then subsides. Wash Immediately under cold water. Do this for about 5 minutes. Then apply cool pack/ice pack or a wet towel or handkerchiefs and pressure for 2 minutes or so If you use an ice pack, wrap a hand towel around it so it does not cause frostbite. Don't apply direct Ice. If possible, after this go and purchase burn cream from your Chemist. If you must have a prescription, Book an appointment with your local GP. In the meantime, Just continually wash under cold water and/or give a bath. First-degree burns are usually not bandaged. Consult your child's physician for additional treatment for first-degree burns. Treat this burn as a minor burn UNLESS a lot of your baby's hands are burnt (burnt all over you baby's hand) If this is so, Take you bub to the Hospital ASAP.
NEVER APPLY DIRECT ICE TO THE BURN.
If you have medicine pain reliever suitable for your baby, give this to the baby immediately.
Good luck,
Hope this has helped.

Only use fresh Aloe Vera right from the yard. Pull one of the large stems that is full of gel and cut it in half long ways and lay the open slimy gel part directly on the burn for about 10-20 minutes. This plant is a true miracle because there won't even be any scar from it . The store bought aloe Vera gels are crap compared to the instant healing received from the stem of the plant right out of the ground.

First - apply cold water. Second - get him to a pediatrician or emergency room to be sure that the situation does not get worse and will heal without complications.
Burns of any kind are the most painful, traumatic and destructive of any non fatal injury. The pain alone can cause complications in a baby. Get medical attention immediately and forget the home remedies. Whatever you do DO NOT put grease of any kind on the affected areas.

I just want to make sure we're on the same page here.....1st degree is a non-serious burn; 3rd degree means that it had burned the way through the skin. If your baby has a serious-looking burn, you should take Baby to the emergency room immediately.
Anyway, here is a website which will tell you how to identify which kind of burn your baby has and what you should do about it....

Well, it's been 3 days since you asked this question, but I thought I would suggest a couple of things to aid the healing.
One is to use Vitamin E on the burns, and the other is to use Aloe vera--especially fresh squeezed from an aloe vera plant.
Both things work very well to relieve the scars and aid in the healing process.

Keep pouring cold running water over the burns for at least ten minutes, then cover with clean cotton dressing and seek medical advice.
