he would glory in it and be puffed up in pride.

As salaamu 'alaikym.
The notation after the name of the Prophet Muhammad (salaahu 'alaihi wasallaam) in English is "(pbuh)" which stands for "peace be uopn him". Unless you are try to be deliberately insulting to the Prophet (saw) and/or Islam, please make note of the same and correct such.
Insha'Allah, if the lived example of the Prophet (saw) is noted, he endured countelss insults to his person, as well as physical attacks, without retaliating in a similar manner towards those who did the such to him.
Insha'Allh, I believe he would be upset regarding the incident in the Sudan, which according to the Sudanese government and news agency, was a problem created by persons who re well known for their radical views and intolernace of any perceived slight to Islam and /or the Prophet (saw).
The problem was simply made worse by the current "hate" being aimed towards all Muslims by the Western media.
sadly, the teacher did not take the time to learn about the culture and customs of the people who reside in the area where she would be working.
The school adminsitration failed to provide support for its teachers by offering sensetivity courses for its staff.
The exageration of the media, which blew this whole incident out of proportion has also made the situation worse.
However, it is now resolved.
Ma'a salaam

He was mocked his whole life and he did not do anything. I think he would have just smiled, hug the teddy bear and say to the teacher: That was cute. It's the Muslims who feel like defending the prophet all the time and don't realize they are not doing it properly. As a Muslim, I feel she should have been freed immediately. The teacher looks so innocent and kind. I am sure she didn't mean to offend anyone.
You will have to blame the rising tensions between the west and Islam. Muslims feel persecuted and sometimes do silly mistakes.

Personally, I have read nothing that would lead me to believe the Prophet (PBUH) would be upset with this teacher OR her students for naming a teddy bear after him. I truly believe he would see it as an expression of love and NOT an insult.

I don't really know. It's kind of hard to ask him, since he's dead.
